Crank calls the vehicle or piece of equipment you are working with the selected asset. That simple choice gives the rest of Crank a clear answer to one important question: whose stuff is this?
- Your records stay separated. Work on one machine does not quietly become part of another machine’s history.
- Your Reader choice stays with the right vehicle. OBD-capable vehicles can remember a preferred Reader; known non-OBD equipment can stay explicitly No Code Reader.
- Your gauge layout can follow the machine. Runtime keeps twelve selected gauge fields with the asset instead of forcing unrelated vehicles and equipment to share one setup.
- Your documents and maintenance stay findable. Identification photos, manuals, service history, PM records and other evidence stay attached to what produced them.

An OBD-capable vehicle can remember its preferred Reader. Equipment that has no OBD-II does not have to keep hunting for hardware it will never use.
Keep twelve Runtime choices with the asset
Each vehicle or machine can carry its own Runtime Gauge selections, including equipment that relies on phone or interface data instead of OBD-II.
Keep the installed configuration with the record
Engine, transmission, axle, cooling package, tank, hydraulic system and other application details can stay available when capacities or procedures depend on the exact configuration.
Keep manuals, tags and identification photos
Nameplates, serial/model tags, manuals and service documents can stay with the machine so you do not have to walk back out just to read the label again.

Crank truth boundary: Switching vehicles or equipment is a real context change. A live Reader connection does not get to silently redefine whose records you are looking at, and selecting No Code Reader does not erase an OBD-capable vehicle’s saved layout or history.
And the things that are not machines
Not everything worth organizing belongs in Asset Library.
Asset Library stays deliberately focused on vehicles and equipment because those records can own Reader settings, Runtime Gauges, maintenance, service work and machine evidence. My Collections gives the other things you care about their own place without pretending a Pokémon card, teddy bear, pet or figurine is a vehicle or machine.
