Camera-first by design
Inspection begins with the thing you came to inspect.
Visual Inspector does not open to a conventional menu. The live camera is the workspace. CRANK HALO™ becomes the command and navigation layer over that view, with contextual guidance, a stationary instruction line and a luminous wipe that draws the operator's eye without moving the words.
HALO
Translucent rotary command layer for Capture, Watch, Distance, Light, Voice and Lab. Evidence remains visible beneath the controls wherever practical.
Project context
The live header shows the active Project / Work Record. Tap it at any time to switch where future evidence will be assigned.
Evidence Library
Reopen retained Visual, Thermal, Acoustic, Vibration and Video evidence. Evidence can remain safely Unassigned until the operator organizes it.
Evidence File Manager
Select existing evidence and move its Project / Work Record association without duplicating the canonical retained evidence package.
External copies
Visual evidence can create an explicit Copy to Gallery or Share Copy. The retained original remains protected inside CRANK.
Evidence protection standard: Android Gallery / Photos is not the CRANK Evidence Library. Canonical retained evidence is kept out of the ordinary consumer-media workflow so deleting a casual Gallery copy does not mean deleting the inspection original.
Watch
Tell CRANK what kind of motion matters.
Motion Watch
Watch a defined zone for a meaningful visual change. CRANK uses persistence, settle time and hysteresis so one noisy frame does not become an event.
Flow Watch
Observe visible movement through a selected zone when the practical question is whether material, product or a visible process is moving.
Rotary Watch
Camera-based optical-tach workflow using one defined reflective timing strip. Apply the strip only while the machine is stopped and safely isolated.

Inspect the retained image

Pins + notes
Place inspection points, identify areas of interest, add notes and preserve the selected locations with the retained image.
A/B dimensions + offset
Place, adjust, nudge and lock measurement points. Operator-entered real-world dimensions remain authoritative.
Loupe + precision placement
Magnified placement aids help put points where intended without pretending that a phone image alone establishes dimensional accuracy.
Open external images
Use Android's Photo Picker to select an image or set. The selected media returns directly to CRANK rather than launching another image application.
Distance
Uses real depth capability when available, or an explicitly calibrated approximation. If the hardware cannot support a credible result, distance is unavailable.
D.E.S.I.G.N. bridge
Selected Visual Inspector measurements can be carried toward Dingfelder's D.E.S.I.G.N. geometry workflow while preserving measurement provenance.

Visual Inspector is designed around repeatable field behavior: known targets instead of subjective guesses, visible validity states instead of false precision, deliberate evidence retention instead of disposable screenshots, and clear separation between canonical evidence and consumer copies.
Supplemental inspection tool — not a safety interlock.
CRANK does not detect, eliminate, isolate or control hazards and must never be used as permission to approach, energize, operate, service or return equipment to service. Follow applicable laws, manufacturer instructions, lockout/tagout procedures, guarding, PPE and site rules. Apply a Rotary Watch timing strip only while the component is stopped and safely isolated.
